Shaman King: The Super Star Manga Ends – What’s Next for the Franchise?

November 27, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Entertainment

Shaman King Overview

Shaman King: The Super Star manga officially finished on November 23, 2024. It ran for 68 chapters and released 9 volumes in Japan. The last volume’s release date is pending.

Upcoming Arc

A new arc called Shaman King Yard is on the horizon. Details about this arc are not yet available.

Franchise Background

The Shaman King franchise includes the original manga, sequels like Flowers and Super Star, and several anime adaptations.

Manga Details

Hiroyuki Takei, the original creator, wrote Shaman King: The Super Star, which follows the stories from Shaman King: Flowers, itself a sequel to the original series. The manga started in Shōnen Magazine Edge, which ceased publication in October 2023. It resumed in August 2024 on Magazine Pocket, an online platform.

The Storyline

The original Shaman King manga, published from 1998 to 2004, spans 32 volumes. It tells the story of Yoh Asakura, a shaman aiming to channel the Great Spirit and become the Shaman King. His fiancée, Anna Kyoyama, joins him. A spin-off series, Funbari Poem, was serialized from 2003 to 2004.

Shaman King Flowers, set years later, follows Yoh and Anna’s son, Hana Asakura. This sequel, serialized from 2012 to 2014, ended with 6 volumes. Shaman King: The Super Star continues Hana’s story.

Anime Adaptations

The original Shaman King anime aired from 2001 to 2002. It did not cover the complete story, as it ended before the manga concluded. The adaptation helped popularize the series internationally, directed by Seiji Mizushima.

A remake aired from 2021 to 2022, produced by studio Bridge and directed by Joji Furuta. This series featured most of the original cast. Shaman King Flowers was also adapted following the remake. Audience reactions to these adaptations have varied.

Streaming Availability

The Shaman King remake and Shaman King Flowers are available on Netflix. The original anime can be streamed on Pluto TV and Tubi.

Conclusion

The Shaman King franchise continues to grow, with new stories and adaptations keeping fans engaged. The upcoming Shaman King Yard promises to bring even more excitement to the beloved series.
