Colombo, Sri lanka – Najmul hossain Shanto has resigned from his role as Test captain for Bangladesh following an innings-and-78-run defeat to Sri Lanka. Shanto, 26, announced his decision after the second Test, stating it was “for the betterment of the team.”
Shanto had already communicated his decision to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He expressed his belief that having three different captains across formats was not the ideal structure for the team. Mehidy Hasan Miraz replaced Shanto as the 50-over captain June 12. Litton Das currently serves as the T20 skipper.
During his tenure,Bangladesh secured four wins and suffered nine losses in 14 Test matches under Shanto’s leadership. The decision to relinquish the captain’s role reflects Shanto’s commitment to prioritizing the team’s needs.
“I don’t want to continue as captain in this format, and I want to give a clear message to everyone: this is not a personal matter,” Shanto said.
