Shaping a Brighter Tomorrow: GCC Countries Unite to Secure a Sustainable Future for Generations to Come
Gulf Cooperation Council Affirms Commitment to Right to Development
Geneva, September 19, 2024
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have reaffirmed their commitment to the right to development, emphasizing the importance of removing obstacles and challenges that hinder its full realization, particularly for children and future generations.
According to a statement issued by Hind Abdul Rahman Al-Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations office in Geneva, the GCC countries view the right to development as a priority and a fundamental guarantee of the full enjoyment of all rights.
The GCC countries believe that the present generation has a responsibility and duty towards future generations to act in a manner that does not impede or obstruct their right to development. To achieve this, they emphasize the importance of establishing plans and laws that support the rights of future generations and follow a forward-looking approach that allows the participation of representatives of future generations and preserves their rights.
Initiatives to Support the Right to Development
The GCC countries are taking many initiatives to support the right to development and the right of future generations to live in a healthy environment that has all the elements of sustainable development. These initiatives include the designation of ministries concerned with the future in relation to the rights of future generations, as well as pioneering models such as the “Future Generation Reserve Fund” to guarantee their economic rights and their right to development.
The GCC countries’ commitment to the right to development is reflected in their vision for the coming year, which prioritizes sustainable development and the protection of the rights of future generations.
