PH:DR: “Valuing teachers’ voices: towards a new social contract for education”.

Ministers Salimane KARIMOU, Éléonore YAYI LADÉKAN and Kouaro Yves CHABI celebrated on Saturday October 19, 2024 in the courtyard of the Savè town hall with teachers, the 31st edition of World Teachers’ Day. The national theme: “Taking into account the teacher’s voice means working for the development of society” takes its source from the international theme: “Valuing teachers’ voices: towards a new social contract for education”.

This opportunity that the Beninese State gives itself every year, through the Ministries responsible for Education, seeks to draw attention to the essential role of the teacher in Beninese society.

Indeed, created in 1994 by UNESCO, World Teachers’ Day aims to recognize the vital work of educators around the world. It recalls the importance of ensuring quality education for all, highlighting the challenges faced by teachers and recognizing their invaluable contribution to education and the development of the country.

For Minister Éléonore YAYI LADÉKAN, the theme chosen at the global level in collaboration with UNESCO is evocative in more ways than one. He called for the urgency to ensure that teachers’ voices are heard and considered in order to address their challenges and above all to recognize and benefit from the specialist knowledge and contributions they make to education. During this celebration, teachers praised the tireless efforts of the Government and called for continuous improvement in their living and working conditions.

In response to these requests, Minister Éléonore YAYI LADÉKAN assured that President Patrice TALON and his entire Government will maintain the dynamic initiated since 2016 to respond to various teachers’ complaints.

The day was marked by distributing congratulatory letters to deserving teachers whose public and private institutions managed to get a better percentage in the various examinations. The teachers called upon to claim their right to retirement were also notable for the good and faithful services they provided to the Nation as a whole.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Savè, Mr. Denis Oba CHABI, Prefect of the Collines department, Mr Saliou ODOUBOU, and various stakeholders in the education sector in Benin.
