Shaquille O’Neal Covers funeral Expenses for Four Sisters Killed in North Carolina Fire

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal adn multiple sheriffs’ offices have stepped in to fully fund the funeral and memorial expenses for four young sisters who died in a house fire in Columbus County, North Carolina, on August 30th.
The Tragedy and the Response
The victims, girls aged 2, 4, 5, and 7, were sisters. Their father, Patrick Ellis, and an 11-year-old sister survived the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under examination by local authorities.
O’Neal partnered with sheriffs from Henry, Fulton, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, and Gwinnett counties in Georgia, as well as law enforcement partners in Florida, to alleviate the financial burden on the Ellis family.
Law Enforcement and Community Support
The Henry County Sheriff’s office announced that the combined donations “fully cover the expenses associated with honoring the girls.”
Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett of Henry County, Georgia, expressed his condolences, stating, The loss the Ellis family has endured is one that shakes us all to our core. Our goal is to remind them they do not walk this journey alone.
O’Neal himself shared his heartbreak, saying, As a father, my heart is broken for the Ellis family. What I can offer is love, support, and a promise that their lives will not be forgotten.
Father’s Grief and Gratitude
Patrick Ellis,in letters and public statements,described his devastation,stating his “heart was shattered beyond words.” He lovingly referred to his daughters as “my joy, my light, and my purpose.” He also publicly thanked the outpouring of support from the community and those who contributed to the fundraising efforts.
Memorial Service Details
A memorial service to honor the sisters is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th, in columbus County, North Carolina. Representatives from Henry County and the other participating sheriffs’ offices are expected to attend.
Ongoing investigation
Investigators are continuing to probe the cause of the fire. As of September 14, 2025, the cause remains undetermined.
