A spokesperson for redstone confirmed the diagnosis, stating that she is maintaining her professional and philanthropic activities throughout her treatment. The spokesperson added that Redstone and her family are optimistic about her prognosis.
Redstone’s health challenges coincide with her efforts to finalize a deal between Paramount and skydance, a merger that would substantially reshape the media landscape. The agreement, reached in July, still requires FCC approval, complicated by opposition from Brendan Carr, an ally of former President Donald Trump. Additionally, Paramount’s CBS news division faces a lawsuit filed by Trump regarding a “60 minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to The New york Times,Redstone consulted doctors roughly two months ago after experiencing fatigue and other symptoms.While surgery removed her thyroid gland, some cancer cells had spread to her vocal cords, necessitating ongoing radiation treatment.
Redstone shared news of her diagnosis with Skydance head David Ellison, as well as close family and friends. Should the Paramount-skydance deal be completed, Redstone will step down from the merged company’s board.
