Sharks’ Prospects Shine in AHL and Beyond

San Jose Sharks prospects are making significant strides across various leagues, demonstrating the depth and potential of the organization’s pipeline. Filip Bystedt continues to lead the charge in the American Hockey League, earning recognition as a key performer for the San Jose Barracuda.

Bystedt was named Sharks Prospect of the Week on February 3rd, following a five-game point streak from January 17th to January 31st, during which he recorded three goals and five assists. This included a three-point performance (one goal, two assists) against Calgary on January 31st. Currently, Bystedt leads the Barracuda in all scoring categories with 13 goals, 23 assists and 36 points.

Cam Lund also recently earned the Sharks Prospect of the Week honor, recognized on January 30th. Lund is currently on a career-long five-game point streak (four goals, one assist) and has tallied seven points (five goals, two assists) in his past 11 games.

Barracuda Building Momentum

The San Jose Barracuda are experiencing a strong run of form, posting a 7-2-0-1 record in their last 10 games and currently sitting in fourth place in the AHL’s Pacific Division. The team’s power play is particularly potent, ranking second in the AHL with 41 power-play goals and boasting a 24.7-percent success rate.

Veteran goaltender Laurent Brossoit has also been impactful during his recent stint with the Barracuda, achieving a season-high .974 save percentage in his third consecutive win on February 4th against Coachella Valley. He has a 4-1-0 record with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in his first five appearances with the club.

Other Barracuda players are also contributing offensively. Igor Chernyshov has registered points in two of his past four games (one goal, two assists) since being reassigned from the Sharks. Despite missing 12 games while with the NHL club, he is tied for eighth in goals (12) among AHL rookies this season. Luca Cagnoni has tallied seven assists in his last nine games and is tied for seventh in assists (21) and ninth in points (26) among AHL defensemen. Quentin Musty has also been productive, recording a point in five of his past eight games (one goal, four assists) and is tied for ninth in assists (16) among AHL rookie skaters.

Nolan Allan scored his first goal with the Barracuda on January 30th in a 5-1 victory against Calgary, and has registered a point in three of his past four games (one goal, two assists).

Prospects Excelling Across North America

Beyond the Barracuda, several other Sharks prospects are making their mark in various North American leagues. Noah Beck (Wichita, ECHL) recorded his second three-assist game of the season on January 25th, and currently ranks seventh in assists (23) and is tied for sixth in points (30) among ECHL defensemen. Jack Bar was recalled to the Barracuda from Wichita on January 14th after recording two goals and 10 assists with the Thunder.

Eric Pohlkamp (Denver, NCHC) has set a new NCHC record for most goals in a season by a defenseman with 16. He has tallied four points in his past five games (three goals, one assist) and leads NCAA blueliners in points (28) and goals (16). Joey Muldowney (UConn, HE) is on a season-long seven-game point streak (seven goals, two assists) and leads UConn skaters in goals (13) and is tied for eighth in assists (8).

Reese Laubach (Penn State, Big 10) posted a career-long five-game point streak from January 16th to January 30th, tallying two goals and three assists. He is tied for sixth in goals (6) and assists (11) and tied for seventh in points (17) among Penn State skaters. Zack Sharp (Western Michigan, NCHC) netted his fourth goal of the season and recorded his fourth multi-point effort (one goal, one assist) on January 30th. Cole McKinney (Michigan, Big 10) has registered an assist in three of his six games with Michigan since returning from the World Juniors.

Richard Gallant (Harvard, ECAC) has tallied four points (two goals, two assists) in his past eight games, and Eli Barnett (New Brunswick, AUS) ranks fourth in plus-minus rating (+12) and fifth in assists (5) among New Brunswick defensemen.

Max Heise (Prince Albert, WHL) has registered 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) in his past 10 games, leading his club in goals (24). Teddy Mutryn (Moncton, QMJHL) has registered five goals and five assists in his past 10 games and reached the 20-goal mark on January 22nd. Carson Wetsch (Kelowna, WHL) recorded his 14th multi-point effort of the season and has reached the 50-point mark for the third consecutive season in the WHL.

Haoxi (Simon) Wang (Niagara, OHL) recorded his fourth assist of the season on January 22nd, and Joshua Ravensbergen (Prince George, WHL) reached the 20-win mark on January 31st, ranking second in save percentage (.916) among WHL netminders.

International Contributions

Ilyas Magomedsultanov made his KHL debut on January 30th with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, and Yegor Rimashevsky netted his fourth goal of the season on the same day with Dynamo Moskva.
