Following a 2024 season where the Cleveland Browns’ offense struggled mightily, ranking last in scoring and cycling through four starting quarterbacks, significant changes have been implemented. The Browns fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, replacing him with Tommy Rees, and brought in Mike Bloomgren as the new offensive line coach. Cleveland also used five of its seven draft picks to bolster the offense and added four new quarterbacks: Kenny pickett,Joe Flacco,Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders.
The Browns’ revamped offense is beginning to take shape as the team starts organized team activities. The four-way quarterback competition looms large as the NFL season approaches.
“It’s Day 2 for us, so I think everybody understands where they’re supposed to be and when they’re supposed to be ther,” coach Kevin Stefanski said. He added that the players and coaches are ensuring safe practices while providing opportunities for learning on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Competition
Early practices have offered a glimpse into the quarterback pecking order. Veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett have been splitting first-team reps in team drills, while rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders have been working with backups. To maximize reps, the rookies have also participated in 7-on-7 drills on a separate field.
Flacco, entering his 18th NFL season, brings the most experience. He also has familiarity with Stefanski’s offense from his time with the team in 2023.
tight End Addition
The Browns selected Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Fannin, in the third round. In 2024, Fannin led all FBS pass catchers with 117 receptions and 1,555 receiving yards. General Manager Berry referred to Fannin as the “queen on the chessboard” due to his versatility.
“He’s a really good ball-in-hand player, can separate as a pass catcher despite being a little bit undersized,” Berry said. “He’s really a good movement style blocker, and he fits perfectly in terms of what Kevin and Tommy want to do philosophically on the offense.”

offensive line Stability
Despite struggles and injuries in 2024, the Browns opted for continuity on the offensive line. Left guard Joel bitonio is returning for his 12th season, and right tackle Jack Conklin agreed to a reworked contract. Center Ethan Pocic and right guard Wyatt Teller are also returning. David Jones, a 2023 fourth-round pick, is back at practice after recovering from a leg injury and knee surgery.
The Browns also added experienced depth with Cornelius Lucas and Teven Jenkins, who started seven and 14 games last season, respectively.
Following the 2024 season, several offensive linemen advocated for a return to Stefanski’s running scheme, which had been altered to accommodate quarterback Deshaun Watson. The Browns hope that familiarity and improved health will lead to more consistent play from the offensive line.
what’s next
As the Browns continue organized team activities, the focus will be on solidifying the quarterback position and integrating new players into the offensive scheme. The team hopes these changes will translate to improved performance and a return to contention in the AFC North.
