Sheila O’donnell Retires After Transforming Crothall’s Health Technology Systems
Sheila O’Donnell,a key figure in the growth of Crothall’s Health Technology Systems (HTS),is retiring after a distinguished career. O’Donnell’s leadership saw HTS revenues triple since 2016, now managing over one million medical devices across more than 200 hospitals in the U.S.
As senior Vice President of the Technical Resource Group, O’Donnell oversaw critical operations, including information technology, cybersecurity, and supply chain management. Her role extended to championing technology investments and representing HTS to clients and industry organizations.
Brooke Fairbanks, National vice President of Sales, praised O’Donnell’s support and strategic advice, calling her essential to new sales opportunities.
O’Donnell’s 40-year career, with 30 years in healthcare technology, began after graduating from James Madison University. Early in her career, she managed medical equipment procurement for the University of Virginia’s new trauma centre.
Before joining Crothall in 2016,O’Donnell spent 15 years at General Electric,including as a general manager for its southeast zone imaging business.
Recognizing the need for continuous quality enhancement, O’Donnell pushed for investments that positioned Crothall as an industry leader in medical equipment repair and servicing. A key achievement was securing ISO 13485:2016 certification in June 2019, making Crothall one of the first Self-reliant Service Organizations to achieve this standard.
Jim Cheek, Division President, noted that O’Donnell’s strategic thinking advanced HTS’s technology and programs. Richard Eliason, Sr.Director of Compliance for HTS, credited O’Donnell’s vision for instilling a quality culture throughout the association.
In 2021, O’Donnell led HTS’s technology upgrade with teamCHAMPS, a cloud-based Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) powered by Nuvolo, providing clients with thorough data analytics.
O’Donnell also addressed cybersecurity threats through a partnership with Asimily, streamlined procurement, and advocated for industry issues as Crothall’s representative on the Alliance for Quality Medical Device Servicing.
“When we activated our CMMS, we considerably advanced our client support by providing the timely data they need to understand the entire life cycle of their medical equipment,” O’Donnell said.
What’s next
In retirement, O’Donnell plans to spend time with her grandchildren and continue serving on the AAMI Foundation board. She may also consider consulting within the industry.
