Richard Shelby Honored for Alabama Rural Health Advocacy

Former U.S. Senator Richard shelby, of Alabama, has received the Alabama Rural Health Association’s (ARHA) ‘Legislator of the Year’ award. The honor was presented at the 2023 annual conference in Hoover.
Shelby was recognized for his long-standing support of rural health legislation, including the Save Rural Hospitals Acts of 2020 and 2021, the Fair Medicare Payments Model Act of 2017, and bills supporting telehealth and broadband access.
The Alabama Rural Health Association is a leading voice for rural healthcare in the state. Its membership includes over 1,000 healthcare professionals. The association advocates for legislation and policies benefiting rural providers. It also provides education and training to healthcare providers in rural communities.
“Senator Shelby and his staff were always receptive to our advocacy for issues around rural health and other issues that impact rural Alabama,” said Farrell Turner, president of ARHA.
