Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian singer Sherin Abdel Wahab is facing scrutiny after a controversial statement made during a recent concert in Kuwait. The incident, which has gone viral on social media, has prompted the Egyptian Syndicate of musical Professions to summon the artist for investigation.
during the concert, Abdel Wahab, known for her powerful vocals and emotional performances, appeared to make a lighthearted remark about the late composer Muhammad Rahim, who passed away last month.
“Mohammed Rahim has made many sweet songs for me, including feelings, my patience is little and sensitive strings. Can you recite Al-Fatiha to him so that it remains (Sayyah Jariyah),” she said, before quickly smiling and retracting the statement.
The comment, which some perceived as disrespectful towards the deceased and Islam, sparked outrage online. Many criticized Abdel Wahab for her perceived insensitivity, particularly given Rahim’s recent passing and his significant contributions to Arabic music.

The Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions condemned abdel Wahab’s remarks, calling them “totally contradictory to all religious values and principles, the sanctity of death, and the depiction of his country.”
Captain Mustafa kamel,head of the syndicate,issued a statement expressing his disappointment,stating that Abdel Wahab’s actions ”require accountability.”
“What happened to Shereen Abdel Wahab this time is nothing but absurdity and contempt for all religious, social, human, and artistic values,” Kamel said.

Despite the backlash, fellow singer tamer Hosni defended Abdel Wahab, suggesting that the comment was a slip of the tongue. Hosni reportedly mediated a conversation between Abdel Wahab and Rahim’s brother,who ultimately accepted her apology.
Abdel Wahab, who has been known for occasional controversial statements in the past, has yet to publicly address the incident.
