Strengthening the Village and Enriching the People: A Report to the Hometown
Meet Qian Weiwei, the secretary of the Party branch and director of the village committee of Limuzha Village, Keqiao District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. Clad in a blue jacket, he walks briskly along the ridge of the field, his trouser legs and shoes speckled with mud. This is a far cry from his former life as a senior overseas returnee financial analyst, who once donned a suit and tie to navigate the office building. Today, he leads the villagers towards common prosperity, earning their respect as a good party secretary and representative.
Qian Weiwei’s journey is a testament to his dedication to his hometown. Having traveled extensively, he often thought about how to contribute to its development. In 2019, he returned to his roots and became the new leader of Limuzha Village. Leveraging his professional expertise, he developed and utilized collective resources such as old factories and tea gardens, accelerating the attraction of industries and talents. As a result, the village collective economy’s annual income soared to over 5 million yuan.
Qian Weiwei’s innovative approach to village governance has been instrumental in solving problems for the people. He led village cadres to visit households, effectively addressing concerns and seeking welfare for the community. His mantra? “It doesn’t matter if it’s a little bit hard or tiring. The key is to get things done.”
Qian Weiwei’s dream is to showcase the new rural landscape brought about by the “100 million yuan project” to the world. He finds joy in the journey from the city to the countryside, driven by his passion for creating a better life for his community.
