A new documentary, “Who Killed Shireen?” from Zeteo, claims an Israeli soldier intentionally killed Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022.The film identifies Alon Scagio as the soldier who fired the fatal shot in Jenin.
The documentary alleges a pattern of denial and cover-up by both Israel and the U.S. following Abu Akleh’s death. Initially, Israel blamed Palestinian militants, but later admitted one of its soldiers “probably” mistakenly shot her. however, the documentary contends that Abu Akleh, reporting for Al Jazeera, was wearing clearly marked press attire and was intentionally targeted.

According to the documentary, a U.S. investigation concluded the killing was intentional, but the Biden administration allegedly suppressed the findings and echoed the Israeli narrative. The film highlights that despite visual and ballistic evidence suggesting an Israeli soldier was responsible, Israel maintained the killing was unintentional.
The documentary further claims that Scagio, the alleged shooter, was later promoted before being killed in action in Jenin in June 2024.
“We will not tolerate killing of an American…the shooter must be prosecuted as she was an American citizen,” President Biden said after Shireen was killed.
