Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched district-specific agricultural roadmaps for four districts in Madhya Pradesh. The initiative aims to increase farmer profitability by focusing on value addition, integrated farming models, and the efficient use of resources.
The roadmaps were unveiled during an agricultural festival, where the Minister emphasized the importance of crop diversification and water conservation to improve agricultural outcomes. According to the plans, the strategy will be expanded to all districts across Madhya Pradesh following the initial rollout in these four locations.
Focus on Value Addition and Integrated Farming
A central component of the new agricultural strategy is the promotion of value addition. By processing raw agricultural produce into higher-value products, the government intends to ensure that farmers capture a larger share of the profit margin within the supply chain.

Minister Chouhan also highlighted the role of integrated farming systems. These models encourage farmers to combine different agricultural activities—such as crop production, livestock, and aquaculture—on a single farm to create a more resilient and diversified income stream.
The Minister stated that these integrated systems are essential for boosting the overall income of farmers and align with the objectives of the Viksit Bharat
vision.
Strategic Objectives and Resource Management
The district-wise roadmaps are designed to address the specific ecological and economic needs of each region. The primary goals of these plans include:
- Increasing farmer profitability through targeted value addition.
- Promoting crop diversification to reduce reliance on single-crop systems.
- Implementing water conservation measures to ensure sustainable resource use.
- Scaling the model from the initial four districts to the entire state of Madhya Pradesh.
These measures are intended to modernize the agricultural landscape in Madhya Pradesh by moving away from traditional farming methods toward more business-oriented, efficient models of production.
Broader Agricultural Policy Context
In addition to the district roadmaps, the Union Agriculture Minister has addressed other systemic agricultural issues. During a press conference in Bhopal on April 10, 2026, Chouhan discussed matters regarding fertilizer subsidies and the implementation of Farmer IDs.
The Minister noted that these initiatives are being carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to streamline agricultural support and ensure that benefits reach the intended recipients more effectively.
The combination of localized roadmaps and national-level policy adjustments, such as the Farmer ID system, suggests a dual approach: providing broad systemic support while allowing for district-level customization based on local soil, climate, and market conditions.
