Wichita State men’s golf achieved a fifth-place finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, which concluded on April 1, 2026. The tournament took place at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.
The Shockers finished the competition with a team total of 847, which was 17-under par. This result represents the highest team finish for Wichita State since the program placed fourth at the Border Olympics on February 17, 2026.
Team Performance and Progression
Wichita State’s path to fifth place was marked by a strong start and a significant late surge. The team posted three rounds of 282, 289, and 276.
In the opening round, the team benefited from strong performances by Jose Carletta, Jose Miguel Ramirez, and Emilio Arellano Lamas. All three golfers finished the first round under par, with Ramirez at 3-under, Carletta at 2-under, and Lamas at 1-under.
During the second round, the team maintained a pace similar to their first day of play. However, the round was interrupted when play was suspended due to darkness. Following the restart, Wichita State experienced a slight drop in the standings.
The team recovered in the final round, firing a 12-under team score of 276. This was the lowest round recorded by any team in the third round of the tournament. This final push allowed the Shockers to move into the top five, finishing ahead of No. 45 South Florida and No. 42 San Diego.
Wichita State finished the event just two strokes behind No. 49 UNLV. In the process, the Shockers defeated five teams ranked within the Scoreboard top 100.
Individual Standings
Jose Carletta delivered a career-best performance to lead the team. He concluded the tournament in fifth place on the individual leaderboard, capping his effort with a 4-under 68 in the final round.

Other notable individual contributions included:

- Caden Cox, who recorded a 3-under score in the final round.
- Emilio Arellano Lamas, who finished the final round at 2-under.
Tournament Field and Results
The Wyoming Cowboy Classic featured a 25-team field, including five teams ranked inside the national top 50. No. 28 Southern California won the team title with a 26-under score of 838, securing the victory by one shot over Arkansas State.
On the individual leaderboard, Thomas Schmidt of Arkansas State claimed the title with a 13-under total of 203.
Following their performance in Maricopa, Wichita State is scheduled to compete in the Tiger Invitational from April 6 to April 7, 2026.
