Nassau County Police Arrest Suspect in Rape of 5-Year-Old Girl
Nassau County, Long Island, New York, police announced on Friday, November 1, that Wilson Castillo Diaz, a 27-year-old undocumented immigrant from Honduras, has been arrested and charged with the rape of a 5-year-old girl in Westbury.
The alleged incident occurred on the afternoon of October 16. According to a criminal complaint, Diaz allegedly sexually assaulted the girl in his bedroom and then recorded the incident on his TV, showing it to the victim.
Police have not released any information about Diaz’s relationship with the girl or who reported the incident to the authorities. Nassau County Police Chief Patrick Ryder stated that law enforcement officials are still investigating the incident and suspect there may be other victims.
Diaz, who resided in Westbury, entered the United States illegally from Texas near the Rio Grande when he was 16. In 2016, a year after entering the country, he was ordered deported for missing his court date.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman expressed concerns about the incident, stating that undocumented immigrants like Diaz should not have been allowed to enter the United States, citing concerns about their identities, backgrounds, and potential criminal records.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified of Diaz’s arrest and took him into custody. He will be deported after facing charges of rape, attempted rape, and endangering the welfare of a child. Diaz was taken to a local jail after failing to post $200,000 bail.
