Hong Kong Sports Commissioner Huang Desen Resigns
The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau announced that Sports Commissioner Huang Desen has resigned and will leave office on September 20.
Huang Desen had submitted a request to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau to terminate his contract due to personal reasons. The bureau thanked him for his contribution to Hong Kong sports policy and sports development in the past year and wished him success in his future work and continued contribution to the Hong Kong sports industry.
Huang Desen took office as sports commissioner on August 22 last year and served for about one year, not completing his three-year contract. As Sports Commissioner, he was responsible for formulating sports policies and related measures, and promoting and implementing the government’s sports development policy objectives, including promoting the “popularization”, “eliteization”, “event-oriented” and “industrialization” of sports.
Upon his appointment as Sports Commissioner, Huang Desen expressed his honor to contribute to Hong Kong’s sports industry with his experience in the sports industry. As a sports specialist, he belonged to point 3 of the directorate salary scale, with a monthly salary of NT$213,700 upon entry.
Wong Tak-sen, a Hong Kong windsurfing athlete and coach, has been mentioned as a potential replacement. He is the husband of Atlanta Olympic windsurfing gold medalist Li Lishan and has been engaged in sports for over 30 years, winning two Asian Games silver medals. After retiring in 2000, he became the coach of the Hong Kong team and later joined the Hong Kong Federation and Olympic Committee in 2008. He was appointed as the administrative director of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association in 2022.
