Shocking Twist: Evangelical Minister Accused of Heinous Child Abuse Found Dead Behind Bars

The Pastor of the Assembly of God was captured last week after spending two years on the run. Jefferson Batista de Amorim was caught raping a minor in his home. According to the Civil Police, the man used his religious position to gain the trust of the victims’ families.

The minister of the Assembly of God and sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a vulnerable person, Jefferson Batista de Amorim, aged 43, died last Monday night (28) after falling ill in Sílvio Porto Prison, in João Pessoa (BP) .

According to the State Secretariat of the Paraíba Penitentiary Administration (Seap-PB), he was taken to the Burity Hospital Complex Tarcísio de Miranda (Trauminha), but he did not resist. The cause of death is still under investigation.

The pastor was arrested on September 24, in Santa Rita, in the Metropolitan Region of João Pessoa, after the submission of an arrest warrant.

He has been accused of abusing three minors and, according to the Civil Police, has used his religious position to gain the trust of the victims’ families. The man had been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the crimes.

According to deputy João Paulo Amazonas, who is responsible for the case, the 43-year-old minister had already been arrested in 2016, but had been on the run for two years.

“He was released, but a new arrest warrant was issued against him. Our team managed to catch him in the Heitel neighborhood of Santiago, where he was hiding,” the representative said.
