Cairo’s criminal court has decided to postpone the first session of the trial of popular singer Saad al-Saghir, accused of possessing hashish and tramadol, two drugs for consumption, until next November, Egyptian media reported on Sunday. 25 sessions, while continuing his detention and subjecting him to forensic medicine.

Al-Saghir was arrested and detained by security authorities at Cairo International Airport last month after marijuana oil and electronic cigarettes were found during an inspection. The 54-year-old singer claimed he could not read or write and did not know the seized items were prohibited from being circulated.

Al-Ahram explained that the Egyptian artist’s lawyer, during his plea before the court judge, argued that the drug test was illegal, noting that his client’s possession of drugs did not mean that he was taking them.
The lawyer produced a stamped medical certificate, dating back several months, proving that his client was suffering from heart disease and cruciate ligament problems, which prevented him from smoking completely. The medical certificate also states that Saad Al-Sagheer was taking Tramadol to relieve his pain on the advice of his treating physician.
Al-Masri Al-Youm indicated that the Public Prosecution began its investigation by questioning three employees at Cairo International Airport, who testified that the X-ray machine, when checking the accused’s bag, showed the presence of an electronic cigarette. They contained narcotic liquid, as a result of which the accused was arrested.
