The 2024 British Open snooker competition took place at The Centaur in Cheltenham, England, from September 23 to 29, 2024, with a prize pool of £502,000 (approximately 22 million baht).
Thepchaiya Unnoo, Thailand’s number one player and 40th in the world, made it to the round of 16, where he faced Mark Selby, the “rock shark” from England and a four-time world champion.

The two players had a history of competition, with Thepchaiya winning only once in their last seven meetings. That win came in the 2016 World Open round of 32, where Thepchaiya won 5-3 frames.
In their latest match, Thepchaiya took a 3-2 lead but was unable to close out the match. Mark Selby turned the tables and won 4-3 frames, with scores of 0-104, 96-0, 87-0, 45-82, 87-59, 0-115, and 13-75.
Despite his elimination, Thepchaiya received a consolation prize of 9,000 pounds (approximately 390,000 baht) and 6,000 accumulated points, moving him from 40th to 38th in the world rankings.
Mark Selby, on the other hand, advanced to the quarter-finals, where he will face David Gilbert, the 21st-ranked player from England.
