Shooting Stars Tonight: How to See Meteor Shower
Geminid Meteor Shower to Peak December 14th
The geminid meteor shower, known for its reliability and high rates, will reach its peak activity on the morning of December 14, 2025. Experts at the Mira observatory predict observers could see up to 85 meteors per hour under optimal conditions.
Extraordinary Viewing Potential
The geminids are considered the most active meteor shower of the year, and this year’s event could be even more breathtaking. When combined with sporadic meteors from other minor showers, the rate could climb to as many as 100 meteors visible each hour.
Timing and Lunar Interference
To maximize yoru viewing experience, plan to observe either late on December 13th or early on December 14th. However, the presence of the last crescent moon, rising around 3:00 a.m.local time, will create some interference, reducing the contrast and making fainter meteors harder to spot.
