Shrimp Dinner Turns Toxic: Golden Harbor Club Shut Down Amid Food Poisoning Scare
Mainland Tour Group Suspected of Food Poisoning in Hong Kong
A recent incident involving a Jiangxi tour group from the Mainland has raised concerns about food safety in Hong Kong. At least 11 people were hospitalized after experiencing symptoms of food poisoning, which is believed to have occurred after they dined at the Golden Harbor Hotel in To Kwa Wan.
The Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health has launched an investigation into the incident and has instructed the Golden Harbor Hotel to cease operations immediately. The hotel has been ordered to clean and disinfect the premises, improve food cooking procedures, and enhance hygiene practices.
According to the Department of Health, the affected individuals had eaten boiled shrimp together, which may have been contaminated. The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings suggest that cross-contamination of food, premature preparation of food, and failure to reheat thoroughly may have contributed to the outbreak.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has also inspected the Golden Harbor Club and found that the kitchen wall was damaged, violating the “Food Business Regulations.” The department has prosecuted the relevant individuals and is continuing to investigate.
The Center for Health Protection has contacted the Travel Industry Authority and travel agencies, and preliminary findings indicate that no other tourists have been affected. The Center will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
