Divorce Proceedings adn Financial Request
Daniel Bernard, the estranged husband of Australian singer Sia (Sia Furler), is requesting more than $250,000 (approximately £187,000 or A$384,000) per month in spousal support, according too court documents filed in the United States. Sia, known for hits like “Chandelier” and “Titanium,” filed for divorce in March 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Claimed lifestyle and Financial Dependence
Bernard, a former radiation oncologist, asserts he needs the substantial monthly allowance to maintain the “luxurious and upper-class lifestyle” enjoyed during their marriage. He claims he became financially dependent on Sia after leaving his medical practice to collaborate with her on a short-lived business venture.
According to the court filings, the couple, who married in December 2022 and share an 18-month-old son, reportedly had monthly expenses exceeding $400,000. These expenses included private jet travel, lavish vacations, high-end dining, and a full-time staff.
Bernard stated in his filing, “We never needed to monitor our living expenses,” emphasizing the financial freedom they experienced during the marriage.
Professional Re-entry and Additional costs
The 47-year-old Bernard argues the temporary support order is “necessary” because 49-year-old Sia was the primary earner throughout their marriage. He also explained that resuming his medical career requires several years of retraining and passing rigorous certification exams. He previously worked as a radiation oncologist.
in addition to spousal support, Bernard is requesting funds to cover legal fees and forensic accounting costs related to the divorce proceedings.
