Hawthorn captain James Sicily will miss upcoming games due to a hip/abdominal injury. The‌ proclamation comes a week after Coach Sam Mitchell downplayed⁢ concerns⁤ about Sicily’s condition, calling it ‌”a storm in a ⁢teacup.”

Last week, Mitchell addressed ‍questions about sicily’s form ⁢and injury status, denying that the veteran player was ⁣hindered in any way.⁣ The club’s head doctor initially deemed ‌the injury not meaningful enough to warrant Sicily’s omission before the loss to Collingwood.

hawthorn’s doctor,Liam West, said⁤ in a statement that James Sicily’s injury flared up after the‍ Collingwood game, despite showing‌ enhancement in prior weeks. He added that the club had planned to give Sicily⁤ an extended break around the bye, so thay decided to bring it forward.

With the Hawks having a bye after the next two games, the 168-game veteran will have ⁢ample time to recover during ‍the mid-season⁢ break. Luke Hodge had mentioned “murmurs” of a groin issue impacting sicily’s kicking, but Mitchell refuted this at the time.

What’s next

Sicily’s absence presents⁢ a‍ challenge for the Hawks⁣ as they‍ navigate upcoming matches. The team will be focusing on strategies to compensate for his absence and ensure a strong return after the bye. The focus remains on AFL ⁤news and updates regarding his recovery.
