Sigma is expanding its hybrid cinema lens lineup with the release of the AF Cine 28-105mm T3 FF zoom lens. Building upon the optical foundation of the company’s 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN Art lens released in , the new lens is specifically engineered for filmmakers, offering autofocus capabilities alongside cinema-focused ergonomics.

The AF Cine 28-105mm T3 FF is the second lens in Sigma’s AF Cine Line, following the 28-45mm T2 FF, which began shipping in . Both lenses were initially announced in , representing Sigma’s entry into autofocus-compatible cinema lenses. The core design philosophy centers around leveraging the proven optical performance of Sigma’s Art series lenses while adding the features and functionality demanded by professional cinematographers.

According to Sigma, the 28-105mm T3 FF offers the same image quality as the still photography-focused 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN Art lens. However, significant modifications have been made to accommodate the needs of video production. These include a limited-rotation ring for intuitive manual focus, near-silent autofocus operation, and 0.8M pitch gears for compatibility with existing follow focus systems. External indicators on each ring facilitate seamless manual operation, and the aperture ring features clickless movement – a crucial feature for smooth exposure changes during recording.
