Signal No. 1 will be maintained until at least 6 p.m. The Observatory will evaluate whether it is necessary to send Signal No. 3 – RTHK
Weather Update for Hong Kong
As of 12:27 PM on November 18, 2024, the Observatory reports that Alert Signal No. 1 is in effect. This alert will remain until at least 6 PM. The Observatory is evaluating if it needs to issue the No. 3 strong wind signal tonight or early tomorrow based on the distance and intensity of Severe Tropical Storm Mangi, as well as local wind changes.
Current forecasts show that High Island is located about 570 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong. It is expected to remain over 400 kilometers away today. Strong winds are not anticipated across Hong Kong.
Expect sunshine for part of the afternoon, with a few showers later. The temperature will drop, reaching around 18 degrees Celsius tonight. The weather will become significantly cooler over the next couple of days, accompanied by strong winds and occasional rain. Winds will ease by Thursday, leading to clearer skies and slightly higher daytime temperatures later in the week.
The Observatory advises that due to astronomical tides, combined with the northeast monsoon and tropical storm effects, sea levels in Victoria Harbor may rise to about 3 meters above the chart datum from tonight to early tomorrow. In Australia, a rise of about 3.3 meters above chart datum is expected. Minor flooding could occur in low-lying coastal areas.
