Significant expansion of National Scholarships in 2025… Aid target raised to 1.5 million
National Scholarship Information for 2025 Academic Year
The 2025 academic year brings significant changes to the National Scholarship program in South Korea. The Ministry of Education and the Korea Scholarship Foundation have relaxed income standards to benefit more students. The number of applicants is expected to rise from about 1 million to 1.5 million.
Eligibility for National Scholarship Type Ⅰ will now include Chapter 9 students. These students will receive an annual scholarship of 1 million won. Families with two children can receive 1.35 million won for each, while families with three or more children can receive 2 million won for each additional child. The exact amounts may vary based on the final government budget.
Scholarships are granted based on income, assets, and credit of the applicant and their family. Students who did not qualify last year due to income limits must reapply under the new criteria.
Applications for the National Scholarship for the first semester of the 2025 academic year will be available from November 21 at 9 AM to December 26. All college students, including current and new students, can apply online or through the mobile app of the Korea Scholarship Foundation, accessible 24/7.
For assistance, applicants can contact the Korea Scholarship Foundation Customer Center at 1599-2000 or visit local foundation centers across the country. The Ministry of Education aims to ease the tuition burden and expand educational opportunities for more students through these changes.
