Updated May 25, 2025
Tamil actor Silambarasan TR, known as simbu, has expressed interest in playing Indian cricket star Virat Kohli in a potential biopic. The discussion arose after Kohli tweeted about Simbu’s song, ‘Nee Singam Dhan,’ sparking fan suggestions that Simbu would be ideal for the role.

Simbu acknowledged the physical similarities between himself and Kohli. However, he emphasized the importance of a compelling narrative arc. “People are saying this because we have similarities in our looks, but a film needs a climax, and so his story needs a befitting conclusion,” Simbu said. “Hopefully, for all that he has gone through and achieved, a biopic will happen, and hopefully, if that happens, I would love to do it. Let’s see.”
In a separate interview, Simbu recounted recognizing Kohli’s potential early on. He told Star Sports Tamil that he foresaw Kohli becoming the next Sachin Tendulkar, a prediction his friends initially doubted.
Simbu also shared a humorous anecdote about meeting Kohli. “I walked up to him and said ‘hello,’ and he asked me who I was. I said, ‘I am Simbu,’ he replied, ‘I don’t know you,’ before walking away. I wondered why I put myself through that (laughs).”
He added that the experience motivated him to achieve greater success. “And recently, I came across RCB’s reel, and I was happy. Even now, I am not sure if he knows who I am because he had mentioned only the song. But that incident is still unforgettable,” Simbu said.
Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recently featured ‘Nee Singam Dhan’ as his current favorite song. The song, composed by Rahman, has become popular among cricket fans celebrating legendary players like MS Dhoni, Sachin tendulkar, and Kohli.
Simbu acknowledged the RCB video on social media, writing, “nee singam dhaan @imVkohli,” which translates to “You are indeed a lion.”
