Robot Dreams: A Heartwarming Animated Film
Robot dreams is a Spanish-French animated film without dialogue, based on the popular graphic novel of the same name by the American Sara Varon, which won two Goya awards – best adapted screenplay and best animated film – and was nominated for an Oscar in the animated film category.
It is set in Manhattan in the 1980s and contains several pop culture references, such as the song september by Earth, Wind & Fire, which plays at a key moment. Music and sound effects take on absolute prominence to transmit emotions and enhance the universality of the message.
it tells the story of the friendship between a dog and a robot – with a striking resemblance to Bender from Futurama – but it also deals with the fragility of relationships, the passage of time, and the adaptation to changes. All the feelings, the plot twists, and the humor are conveyed without words; it is an exercise in remarkable mastery.
