Silver Prices Hit Record Highs, Sparking a Sell-Off
Silver prices have reached record levels. As the price of a gram of silver approached 138 Turkish Lira,those holding silver began to sell. Rings, candlesticks, vases, and trays are being taken from homes and sold individually, driven by the rising silver market.
This Tray is Worth 120,000 Lira
Shopkeeper Ferhat Bukin stated that a 70-year-old tray is valued at 120,000 Lira, and citizens are looking to capitalize on their silver possessions.
“From 10,000 Lira to 70,000 Lira”
Bukin added that even family heirloom antiques are being brought in, and the price of these items varies according to their weight. “Prices start from 10,000 Lira and can go up to 70,000 Lira,depending on the gram weight and craftsmanship,” he said.
Bukin noted that citizens are selling their items either due to financial need or as an investment in silver, adding that silver is now competing with gold in the market.
