A fast-moving brush fire, the Lake Fire, is⁣ threatening communities in the San Bernardino Mountains. Cal Fire reported ⁢the blaze started near Crestline and Hesperia around ‍3:50 p.m. Saturday. The potential for the fire to spread across several hundred acres is high, officials said.

Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for areas south of highway 138, ‌stretching from Highway 173 to Summit Valley Road. The Lake Fire’s rapid growth is‌ being fueled by strong winds.

The California Highway patrol has closed highway 138 in both⁤ directions, from Summit Valley Road to Interstate 15. ‌Highway ⁣173 also faces partial closures ‌due to the fire.
