Sinclair Texas Flood Relief Fundraiser
Sinclair Cares: How Local Media and The Salvation Army are Responding to the Texas Floods
The relentless rainfall that began impacting Texas in early July 2025 has triggered devastating flooding, leaving communities reeling and families displaced. As of July 9, 2025, the situation remains critical, with ongoing rescue efforts and a growing need for support. In response,Sinclair Broadcast Group has launched “Sinclair Cares: Texas Tragedy Relief,” a national fundraising campaign in partnership with The Salvation Army, aiming to provide immediate and sustained assistance to those affected.
The Scope of the Disaster and Immediate Needs
The flooding, concentrated in areas around San Antonio and Austin, has caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.Roads are impassable, power outages are common, and the risk of further flooding remains high. Beyond the immediate dangers of rising water, survivors face a multitude of challenges: loss of property, displacement from their homes, lack of access to clean water and food, and the emotional trauma of experiencing a natural disaster. The critical needs on the ground include mobile feeding units to deliver hot meals, access to clean drinking water, emergency shelter, hygiene kits, and essential cleanup supplies. Equally significant is the provision of emotional and spiritual care to help individuals and families cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.
Sinclair’s Extensive Response: On-the-Ground Coverage and Fundraising
Sinclair’s commitment extends beyond financial support. Recognizing the vital role of details during a crisis, stations KABB and WOAI in San Antonio, and KEYE in Austin, have provided continuous, comprehensive coverage of the flooding since it began on July 4th. This dedication included expanding regular newscasts into extended live coverage – a combined 52 hours of live reporting from KABB and WOAI alone – ensuring residents received up-to-the-minute information on evacuation orders, road closures, and safety precautions. To bolster local reporting teams, Sinclair has strategically deployed 10 journalists and additional resources from other markets, amplifying coverage across all platforms, including broadcast, digital, and social media. This commitment to in-depth reporting isn’t simply about delivering news; it’s about serving as a crucial lifeline for affected communities.
“The devastation caused by the recent flooding is truly heartbreaking, and our deepest condolences go out to the families who have lost loved ones,” said Rob Weisbord, Chief Operating Officer and President of local Media at Sinclair. “Sinclair is part of this community, and in times like these, we believe it’s our duty to step up and help. Through Sinclair Cares: Texas Tragedy Relief,we hope to mobilize our audiences and help provide immediate support to those impacted. We’re proud to partner with The Salvation Army, whose teams are already on the ground delivering critical aid where it’s needed most.”
