Singapore air quality remained in the moderate range on Sep. 6, 2026, as fair and windy conditions settled over the island following days of elevated pollutant levels, according to the National Environment Agency (NEA). The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) hovered between 72 and 93 as of 11 p.m. on Sunday, staying outside the unhealthy threshold that had triggered a series of government advisories earlier in the weekend.

The stabilization comes a day after air quality conditions improved from the unhealthy band. According to the NEA’s 6 p.m. daily haze situation update on Sunday, moderate to dense smoke plumes from persistent fires in southern and central Sumatra, as well as West Kalimantan, continued drifting toward Singapore amid ongoing regional dry conditions.

Regional Fires and Regional Weather Outlook

Prevailing winds blowing primarily from the southeast or south carried the smoke across the maritime region. While forecasters predict some showers over Kalimantan, dry weather is expected to persist across Singapore and the immediate surrounding area over the coming days.

The NEA noted that a risk of haze impacting Singapore remains should the land and forest fires in neighboring Indonesia persist. Consequently, the agency forecast the 24-hour PSI for Singapore to remain in the high moderate to low unhealthy range through the 24-hour period following Sunday evening.

Recent Unhealthy PSI Readings and Government Response

On Friday, the 24-hour PSI in the central region entered the unhealthy band of 101 to 200 at 7 a.m., crossing the 100-point threshold for the first time since Oct. 8, 2023.

The worsening conditions subsequently pushed readings into the unhealthy range in both eastern and western Singapore. In response to the deteriorating air, the NEA initiated daily haze advisories and 24-hour PSI forecasts to help residents plan outdoor activities. Additionally, government agencies rolled out targeted measures—including distributing air purifiers, fans, and portable air coolers—to curb the impact of the haze on vulnerable populations.
