LIV Golf stars made a strong start at the Singapore Open on Thursday, with several players positioning themselves near the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the USD2 million tournament at Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong course.
The event, now in its 57th edition, serves as the second stop on the 2026 International Series calendar and offers a direct pathway to the LIV Golf League through the season-long Rankings race. It also provides two spots in The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale as part of The Open Qualifying Series.
The field includes notable LIV Golf representatives such as Ripper GC’s Lucas Herbert, RangeGoats GC’s Peter Uihlein, Fireballs GC teammates Josele Ballester and Luis Masaveu, and LIV Golf Wild Card Travis Smyth, who leads the International Series Rankings. Past Singapore Open champions Sadom Kaewkanjana and Jazz Janewattananond are also competing.
Gaganjeet Bhullar, the most successful Indian golfer on the Asian Tour with 11 titles, and Jeev Milkha Singh, a legend of Indian golf who won the Singapore Open in 2008, are among the experienced players in the Indian contingent.
The Singapore Open, first staged in 1961, is one of the region’s longest-running national championships and remains a key platform for Singapore’s leading players to compete against the world’s best professionals on home soil.
The tournament’s roll of honour includes former world No. 1 Adam Scott, a three-time winner, and 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia, who lifted the title in 2018.
Japan’s Yosuke Asaji used momentum from his 2025 Singapore Open win to climb the Rankings and secure a full-time spot on this year’s LIV Golf League as a Wild Card.
The strong Indian contingent features players who have achieved success on the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Tour, including Pukhraj Singh Gill, winner of the 2025 IGPL Order of Merit, and Sachin Baisoya, who claimed the IGPL Invitational Mauritius hosted by Leander Paes.
Karandeep Kochhar, who won on the ADT Tour in Egypt in 2025, is also part of the Indian challenge at the Singapore Open.
The USD2 million Singapore Open will be held from April 23 to 26 at the Serapong course at Sentosa Golf Club.
