Indian Coast Guard Responds to Singapore-Flagged Vessel Explosion

an underdeck explosion on the Singapore-flagged MV WAN HAI 503 has triggered a large-scale response from the Indian Coast Guard. The vessel, carrying 22 crew members, was traveling from Colombo, Sri lanka, to Nhava Sheva, India, when the incident occurred.
Four crew members are missing, and five have sustained injuries. The Coast Guard instantly diverted assets to coordinate rescue operations. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Mumbai rerouted the MV One Marvel,which rescued 18 crew members,one with serious injuries. A Coast Guard Dornier aircraft is providing real-time assessment of the situation.

the Coast Guard is currently engaged in firefighting operations to stabilize the adrift vessel. Coast Guard ships Rajdoot, Arnvesh, and Sachet have been diverted to provide assistance.
“MV WAN HAI 503 on passage from Colombo to Nhava Sheva reported an explosion under deck in position 315, Kochi 130. 04 crew reported missing and 05 crew injured. The ship was carrying containerised cargo with a total crew of 22. CGDO on task diverted for assessment. ICGS Rajdoot off New Mangalore, ICGS arnvesh off Kochi & ICGS Sachet off Agatti diverted for assistance,” the Indian Coast Guard PRO said.
The Indian Navy has also joined the rescue efforts, diverting INS Surat to assist the distressed vessel.
