Sinner vs Medvedev: Tennis Titans Clash in Electrifying US Open Quarterfinal Showdown
US Open Quarterfinals: Sinner and Medvedev Set to Clash
World No. 1 men’s tennis player Yannick Sinner (Italy) and No. 5 Daniil Medvedev (Russia) will face off in the quarterfinals of the US Open, their third major tournament match of the year.
Sinner defeated Tommy Paul (ranked 14th) of the United States 3-0 (7-6 7-6 6-1) in the men’s singles round of 16, held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, USA.
Medvedev, on the other hand, defeated Nuno Borges (34th, Portugal) 3-0 (6-0 6-1 6-3) in the previous match.

The two have met three times this year, with two of those encounters taking place at major tournaments. Sinner won his first major singles title by defeating Medvedev in the Australian Open final. Medvedev defeated Sinner in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Sinner won 2-0 at the Miami Open in March.
Looking at this year alone, Sinner has the edge with 2 wins and 1 loss, but in terms of overall record, Medvedev has the edge with 7 wins and 5 losses.
Sinner won the Australian Open this year, then advanced to the semifinals of the French Open and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. He is the only player to have reached the quarterfinals or higher in all four major tournaments. Including the Australian Open, Sinner has won a total of five tournaments this year.
With world No. 2 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz (Spain), both of whom were considered strong contenders for the title, having dropped out early, Sinner is considered the top contender to win this tournament.
Medvedev has yet to lift a trophy this year, but he has been exceptionally strong at the US Open, winning in 2021 and finishing runner-up in 2019 and last year.
In the women’s singles, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek (Poland), who is aiming for her sixth major title, defeated Lyudmila Samsonova (No. 16, Russia) 2-0 (6-4 6-1) to advance to the quarterfinals. World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) will face China’s Zheng Qinwen (No. 7) in the quarterfinals.
