While details of the Washington vs. Roosevelt game were limited, the final score indicates a competitive contest. Sioux Falls Live reported on a January 13, matchup between O’Gorman and Washington, noting that O’Gorman secured a 54-40 victory in a game where shots weren’t falling for either side. O’Gorman coach Derek Robey acknowledged the difficulty of the win, stating, “We’re real happy just because we know we beat a very talented team on their own floor, a very athletic team.”
Robey also took responsibility for his team’s offensive struggles, saying, “I got them out of rhythm, and I told our guys that’s on me.” He emphasized the importance of players reacting instinctively rather than overthinking, adding, “Was it pretty? Certainly not, but we feel really good because we know we beat a very well coached team.” Senior Jaxson Weeldreyer led O’Gorman in that January game with 14 points.
The Argus Leader reported that O’Gorman pressured Washington to a loss, though the specific details of that report were not available. The upcoming game on March 7th will provide another opportunity for these two Sioux Falls teams to compete.
