Jamil Rateb’s Thoughts on Death in His Last Interview
In his final television appearance before passing away, Jamil Rateb shared his perspective on death, stating that he did not fear it, but rather saw it as a relief from the health issues he was facing. He expressed his hope for a peaceful passing without suffering.
Rateb also confessed that he missed his family and believed that death would reunite him with them, saying, “That’s enough for me. I’m 92 years old, and I’ve loved the life I lived, but now I’m satisfied with my life, thank God.”
Jamil Rateb’s Insights on the Current Generation of Artists
In an interview with Al-Masri Al-Youm before his passing, Jamil Rateb shared his thoughts on the current generation of artists, stating, “There are many talented young people nowadays, but I don’t think there’s anyone out there who resembles me in my own acting personality.”
He praised actors like Mena Shalabi and Nelly Karim, considering them among the best in the present time. Rateb also emphasized his opposition to censorship, advocating for freedom of art and expression.

Jamil Rateb acknowledged that his career was not without its weaknesses, admitting that he had accepted some roles out of necessity. However, he noted that his film “Ascension to the Abyss” marked a turning point, changing the producers’ and audience’s perception of him.
Rateb expressed his fondness for playing diverse roles and characters, citing “The White Flag” series as one of his most successful works. He also shared his admiration for Dr. Mufid Abu Al-Ghar, with whom he had a close relationship.
