A bizarre scene unfolded at the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf: reigning individual world champion Domen Prevc lost his skis and was unable to compete, costing Slovenia a likely medal.Even the commentator expressed astonishment.
you don’t see this every day. As Norwegian Marius Lindvik prepared for his jump at the takeoff, a pair of skis slid down from above, one striking his foot before gliding down the inrun and off the jump. The commentator on Swiss broadcaster SRF exclaimed, “Wow, I’ve really never seen that before. The skis forgot the jumper.”
It quickly became clear the skis belonged to none other than Domen Prevc, the season’s dominant ski jumper. The Slovenian apparently left his skis in a position after material control where they slid off on their own in the wet snowfall.
