Heavenly Mountain resort Investigating Cause of Terrifying incident

Heavenly Mountain resort in Nevada is investigating a terrifying incident that left five skiers injured after a chair on the Comet Express lift detached from the cable, causing a nine-meter fall.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. Monday, leaving two chairs dangling precariously, one wedged against the othre. Three skiers were thrown from their chairs during the incident, while two others sustained injuries. A 71-year-old skier, wearing a helmet at the time, lost consciousness after the fall. A 60-year-old skier was also found injured on the ground. The age of the third skier who fell has not been released.

Dramatic images shared on Reddit show first responders rushing to aid the injured skiers on the ground, while at least one person remained trapped between the two suspended chairs.

While the cause of the malfunction is still under examination, strong winds that swept through the area the previous day, reaching speeds of up to 78 km/h (48 mph), are being considered as a possible factor.”The safety of our guests is our absolute priority, and the resort is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident,” a spokesperson for Heavenly Mountain Resort said.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Lake Tahoe ski community.

“It’s just terrifying to think something like this could happen,” said Sarah, a local skier.”I was just ther last week, and it makes you think twice about getting on a lift.”

Mark, another skier who frequents Heavenly, expressed his concern for the injured skiers. “I hope they all make a full recovery,” he said. “It’s a reminder that even though skiing is a fun sport,it can be dangerous.”
