Villach,Austria – Eva Pinkelnig returned to the winner’s circle Monday,securing her first World Cup victory of the season in Villach,Austria.The 36-year-old Austrian dominated the second World Cup event in Villach,outpacing Germany’s Katharina Schmid and Slovenia’s Nika Prevc for her 16th career World Cup win.
This victory marks Pinkelnig’s third triumph in Villach, following a double win at the end of 2022. After a challenging start to the season, with only one podium finish in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on New Year’s Eve, pinkelnig delivered two exceptional jumps to claim a commanding victory by 7.1 points.
“It feels amazing to be back on top,” Pinkelnig said after the competition. “I’ve been working hard and it’s great to see the results paying off.”
Pinkelnig’s win breaks the streak of victories by Prevc and Schmid, who have dominated the World Cup circuit this season. Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, another Austrian jumper, secured third place on Sunday, demonstrating the strength of the Austrian team.
