Skydance’s Behemoth – First Impressions And Graphics Comparison
## Behemoth‘s Launch: A Towering Adventure Marred by Performance Hiccups
Skydance Interactive’s highly anticipated VR adventure, *Behemoth*, officially launched today, promising players a captivating narrative journey through the desolate Forsaken Lands. Players step into the role of Wren, a solitary hunter battling a curse that plagues both his body and village. The stakes are high from the outset, as colossal creatures known as Behemoths roam the landscape, posing a constant threat.
Captured from Quest 2
Unluckily, *Behemoth*’s launch is overshadowed by performance issues across different VR platforms. While the game’s premise and narrative hold promise, technical limitations detract from the overall experience. On the Meta Quest 2, the visuals suffered from noticeable blurriness, a common issue with the aging headset. Aliasing was also prevalent, making in-game text arduous to read. These graphical shortcomings translated into gameplay impediments, with frame rate drops occurring in crowded areas or during encounters with the imposing Behemoths. For players seeking a smooth and visually immersive experience, the Quest 2 falls short.
Captured from Quest 3
Switching to the Meta Quest 3 offered slight graphical improvements, but aliasing persisted. The Quest 3’s higher-resolution displays and pancake lenses mitigated the text readability issues encountered on the Quest 2. Performance also saw an overall enhancement, though occasional slowdowns persisted.
Similar to other recent VR titles like *Metro Awakening*, it appears *Behemoth* was primarily optimized for the Quest 2, leaving the Quest 3’s enhanced capabilities underutilized.
Captured from PSVR 2
The PlayStation VR2 version provided a more visually appealing experience. The OLED screens showcased *Behemoth*’s visuals with greater clarity, particularly in darker environments. The PSVR 2’s advanced haptic feedback, especially the face haptics, added another layer of immersion. Though, the persistent issue of Mura on the PSVR 2 somewhat detracted from the visual fidelity.
