Skylight Books, the independent bookstore and cultural hub based in Los Feliz, is expanding its brick-and-mortar presence with a second location in Eagle Rock. The business announced the expansion on April 10, 2026, via social media.
The new store will be situated at 1958 Colorado Blvd., at the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Shearin Avenue. The space encompasses nearly 6,000 square feet and is expected to open in fall 2026.
Expanded Offerings and Cafe Concept
A primary distinction of the Eagle Rock site compared to the original location is the inclusion of a cafe. General Manager Mary Williams stated that the goal for the new space is to allow customers to buy a book, get a meal or a coffee or a glass of wine, and sit and read for hours
.

In addition to the cafe, the new location will feature an expanded book selection. While the store will maintain a similar mix of nonfiction, literary fiction, arts titles, and graphic novels, Williams noted that the new site will likely expand the children’s book section to better accommodate young families in the Eagle Rock community.
The bookstore’s owner indicated that the new space may eventually house beer and wine in addition to the cafe offerings.
Continuity in Los Feliz
The expansion is an addition to the existing Los Feliz business and not a replacement. The original storefront, located at 1818 N. Vermont Ave., will continue to operate and is scheduled to celebrate its 30th anniversary in fall 2026.
The nearby Arts Annex, which specializes in graphic novels, photography, music, and film, will also remain open. The Los Feliz location has established itself as a center for the local literary community, frequently hosting authors for book discussions.
Location History and Community Context
The building at 1958 Colorado Blvd. Was previously occupied by a Coffee Table cafe and, more recently, a short-lived Cheebo restaurant. Staff members of Skylight Books first identified the building as available in mid-February 2026, though the business had been searching for a suitable Eagle Rock location for some time.
Williams described Eagle Rock as a community on the same wavelength as Los Feliz, noting the area’s existing concentration of independent restaurants and shops as a sign that locals value small businesses.
The entry of Skylight Books into Eagle Rock comes as another local bookstore, READ Books, prepares to leave its longtime location following a proposed rent increase. The owners of READ Books have stated they are currently seeking a new location.
Literary Community Response
The announcement of the second location drew immediate reactions from the literary community. Acclaimed authors Mark Haskell Smith and Emma Straub used social media to celebrate the news of the expansion.
Williams described the response following the April 10 announcement as overwhelming, stating that the business is eager to meet the new community in Eagle Rock.
