Slam Dunk in the Strait: Xiamen University Ignites the Court at the China-ASEAN Elite Universities Basketball Invitational Tournament

In order to carry forward the spirit of Kah Kee, our school held the “Remembering Kah Kee’s Continuous Fire” China-ASEAN Prestigious Universities Basketball Invitational Tournament from October 26th to 30th. Eight men’s basketball teams from ASEAN including Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, University of Malaya in Malaysia, National University of Hanoi in Vietnam, and China’s Zhejiang University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, Jimei University and the host Xiamen University gathered together to Take part in this sporting event.

On the evening of October 26, the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Elite Universities Basketball Invitational Tournament was held at the Mingpei Basketball Hall on the Siming Campus of Xiamen University. Professor Fang Ying, member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee and Vice President, Liu Zhongnan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Physical Education Department, and the head of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office attended the meeting.

Fang Ying said in her speech that 2024 is the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges. China and ASEAN countries have profound friendship and close cooperative relations. This basketball invitational tournament is not only a grand event for sports competition, but also an exchange between young students from China and ASEAN. A platform to learn and enhance friendship. As the first university founded by overseas Chinese in China’s modern education history, Xiamen University will continue to uphold Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s founding aspirations, deepen cooperation with universities in Southeast Asian countries, and contribute to the construction of the “China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future.”

Subsequently, Fang Ying announced the official opening of the China-ASEAN Elite Schools Basketball Invitational Tournament to “remember Jiageng’s continued success”.

At the opening ceremony, the Xiamen University Wushu Team and Cheerleading Team gave wonderful performances.

After the opening ceremony, Xiamen University played against Nanyang Technological University at home. During the game, players from both sides showed superb skills and tenacious fighting spirit, writing their youth with sweat and igniting their dreams with passion.

This invitational tournament will last for 5 days, with a total of 20 games. This is not only a basketball competition, but also a grand event for cultural exchanges, which will add new vitality to the friendship and cooperation between China and ASEAN.
