Southeast Network, October 28 (Reporter Liu Wei, Correspondent Dai Peiqi) On the evening of October 26, the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Prestigious School Basketball Invitational Tournament “Reminiscent of Jiageng’s Continuous Salvation” was held at the Mingpei Basketball Stadium on the Siming Campus of Xiamen University. Eight men’s basketball teams from ASEAN including Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, University of Malaya in Malaysia, National University of Hanoi in Vietnam, and China’s Zhejiang University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, Jimei University and the host Xiamen University gathered together to Take part in this sporting event.

Fang Ying, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice President and Professor of Xiamen University, said in her speech that 2024 is the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges. China and ASEAN countries have profound friendship and close cooperative relations. This basketball invitational tournament is not only a grand event of sports competition , it is also a platform for young students from China and ASEAN to exchange learning and enhance friendship. As the first university founded by overseas Chinese in China’s modern education history, Xiamen University will continue to uphold Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s founding aspirations, deepen cooperation with universities in Southeast Asian countries, and contribute to the construction of the “China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future.”

Subsequently, Fang Ying announced the official opening of the China-ASEAN Elite Schools Basketball Invitational Tournament to “remember Jiageng’s continued success”. The Xiamen University Wushu Team and Cheerleading Team presented wonderful performances for the opening ceremony.

After the opening ceremony, Xiamen University played against Nanyang Technological University at home. During the game, players from both sides showed superb skills and tenacious fighting spirit, writing their youth with sweat and igniting their dreams with passion.

It is reported that this invitational tournament will be held from October 26th to 30th, with a total of 20 games. This is not only a basketball competition, but also a grand event for cultural exchanges, which will add new vitality to the friendship and cooperation between China and ASEAN.
