Michael Jordan’s Luxurious Chicago Mansion Remains Unsold for 12 Years
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Michael Jordan’s 5,202㎡ (1,573 pyeong) mansion in Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago, has been on the market since 2012 but has yet to find a buyer.
Initially listed for $29 million (approximately 38.5 billion won), the price was later reduced to $15 million (19.9 billion won). Despite efforts to attract buyers, including a promotional video in English and Chinese, the mansion remains unsold.
The real estate industry attributes the lack of interest to the mansion’s unique features, which reflect Michael Jordan’s personal tastes. The property boasts two floors above ground and one floor below, featuring nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, a study, a movie room, a home bar, a smoking room, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a fitness center, a tennis court, a golf practice range, and a guest house.
The mansion’s interior showcases Jordan’s signature number, “23,” as a large decorative piece on the main entrance door. Additionally, his silhouette with the Nike logo is depicted in various areas, including the outdoor putting green flag and the home theater.
The property also features a tobacco storage facility and a poker table, catering to Jordan’s love of cigars and poker. An aquarium, originally from the Playboy Mansion in Chicago, adds to the mansion’s unique charm.
Prior attempts to purchase the mansion and convert it into a Michael Jordan museum, conference center, or condos were unsuccessful due to the property’s location. Highland Park City officials cite limited parking and zoning restrictions as major concerns, as potential buyers prefer properties closer to Lake Michigan.
Despite the challenges, the mansion continues to attract attention. Tourists often take pictures at the entrance, and some have even attempted to break in, resulting in a broken window last year. A fake video posted on TikTok showed the mansion’s pool overflowing, further fueling public interest.
