Battle Review:

The first quarter started with a basket by Tsukuba #14. #15 Sakaguchi immediately returned the ball. #3 Takayama made a layup on a quick break from a TO. The two teams continued to trade points, but Chuo University took the lead with an end-one by #77 Miyauchi. Tsukuba, not to be outdone, continued to attack aggressively and made tough shots. Chuo University’s mistakes and TOs continued, and they lost the lead to 12-21 and went into the second quarter.

The second quarter started with Tsukuba #28 scoring. #3 Takayama was the center of the offense with a 3-pointer and an assist to #11 Onu, showing his strength. With momentum on their side, Chuo #5 Ishiguchi made a 3-pointer to close the gap to 4 points, and Tsukuba immediately called a timeout. However, they continued to make playoffs and small mistakes, and were unable to continue their good momentum. They were down 10 points, and Chuo’s timeout came. #3 Takayama made a 3-pointer and #15 Sakaguchi made some tough shots, but Tsukuba’s 3-pointers were hit well, and the gap did not narrow. #77 Miyauchi continued to attack aggressively, with an end-one shot, but the score went into the second half trailing at 28-41.

The 3rd quarter started with #8 Kita’s assist, and #11 Onu was fouled and made a free throw. #15 Sakaguchi made his specialty floater shot, and #42 Yamazaki scored consecutive points with a fast break from a fierce defense. #15 Sakaguchi passed to #3 Takayama for a fast break, and Chuo University got on the roll. Despite a timeout from Tsukuba, #8 Kita made two 3-pointers and drew an offensive foul on defense, showing his offense and defense, and did not let the momentum go. #3 Takayama’s free throw and #33 Shigihara’s drive-in brought them within one point. Tsukuba was not about to give up, and #77 Miyauchi made consecutive tough shots to tie the score. However, with 30 seconds left, they made two 3-pointers and went into the final 4th quarter with the score at 57-63.

The 4th quarter started with #77 Miyauchi getting fouled and making a free throw. The 6-point difference was not narrowed and they wanted to attack aggressively, but the fouls kept piling up and they couldn’t attack as they wanted. As the patience continued, #8 Kita sank his third 3-pointer of the day to encourage the team. #11 Onu stole the ball and #3 Takayama scored to make it a 3-point difference. After a timeout from Tsukuba, Chuo University didn’t want to let the momentum go, but #11 Onu, who had been tenaciously supporting the team on both offense and defense, was sent off with 5 fouls. Still, #15 Sakaguchi scored from a fast break and made a tough shot, closing the gap to one point and exciting the crowd. Tsukuba #28 scored to make it a 3-point difference, but with 50 seconds left, #15 Sakaguchi made an end-one. He also sank a free throw to tie the score. Tsukuba #3 shot from a rebound made it a 2-point difference, and with 25 seconds left, Chuo University called a timeout. From the throw-in, a pass to #15 Sakaguchi went through, but the shot missed, and the game became a foul game. The free throws were sunk, and although they continued to attack until the end, they fell just short, and the game ended with a score of 72-78.

Post-Game Thoughts:

In yesterday’s game, there were times when the score difference was large, but each time we kept our concentration and were able to catch up. We have been having tough games where we have been able to bring it to a close but not win, but we will continue to make adjustments while turning the areas where we have definitely improved into confidence.

We appreciate your continued support for Chuo University.
