Slankova Upsets Second Seed Burel to ⁢Reach Quarterfinals

In⁤ the ‍second round‌ of the women’s ‌singles at the WTA Tour‍ official Jasmine Open Tunisia (WTA250 / Monastir,​ Tunisia / September 9-15 / total‌ prize money of $267,082 / hard ‍court), Rebecca Slankova ⁢(Slovakia) pulled off a‌ stunning upset, defeating second seed Clara‍ Burel⁢ (France) 7-6 (4) 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals.

After losing the first set in a tiebreak,‍ Burel broke her opponent’s ⁣serve ‌twice in the ‍second ​set at 4-4, but Slankova won the final three games to take the victory in two hours. Slankova, who was seeded down, will ⁣next face Sara Sorribes Tormo​ of Spain, who defeated Jana Fett of Croatia 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Starodubtseva Defeats Third-Seeded Parry to Reach Quarterfinals

In other matches, Yulia⁤ Starodubtseva​ of Ukraine beat‌ third-seeded Diane Parry of France 6-4, 6-4, and Sonay Kartal of Great Britain beat Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima 6-2, 6-2⁢ to set up a quarterfinal showdown between the two qualifiers.
