Dvorský’s Rise in St. Louis
Dvorský, who was selected No. 10 overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2023 NHL draft, has continued to establish himself as a primary offensive threat during his rookie campaign. His ability to facilitate plays was on full display during the matchup against Anaheim, where his precise passing helped secure the win for St. Louis.
This NHL success follows a historic performance by Dvorský on the international stage. During the 2026 Olympic tournament in Milan, Dvorský set a new record for the most points ever recorded by an NHL rookie in a single Olympic tournament, finishing with six points consisting of three goals and three assists as of February 18, 2026.
The Emerging Slovak Trio
The recent successes of Dvorský and Slafkovský are linked to a long-term developmental trajectory shared with fellow Slovak star Šimon Nemec of the New Jersey Devils. Nemec was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft, while Slafkovský was the No. 1 pick in that same year.

The connection between the three players dates back to their youth. In the spring of 2016, a 12-year-old Juraj Slafkovský and an 11-year-old Dalibor Dvorský traveled together to Bolzano, Italy, to compete as part of the Slovakia Selects 12U hockey team. A year later, Slafkovský and Šimon Nemec competed together as part of the Slovakia HMS Select team at the International Pee-Wee hockey tournament in Quebec City.
This childhood foundation culminated in the 2026 Milan Olympics, where the trio led the Slovak national team into a semifinal matchup against the United States on February 20, 2026.
International Pedigree
Slovakia’s recent competitiveness in international hockey is underpinned by the experience of these young players. Juraj Slafkovský previously served as the MVP of the 2022 Olympic men’s hockey tournament in Beijing. That tournament saw Slovakia earn a bronze medal, marking the country’s first-ever Olympic medal in ice hockey, with Šimon Nemec also featuring on that squad.
The transition from youth tournaments in Bolzano and Quebec City to leading their national team in the Olympic semifinals and producing high-impact plays in the NHL highlights the rapid ascent of the current generation of Slovak hockey players.
