HERISAU,Switzerland – Slovakia’s national hockey team suffered its first loss since August of last year, falling⁢ to Switzerland in⁢ a pre-World Championship exhibition game. “It had to happen eventually,” said Rastislav Konečný, an analyst for JOJ plus. “Maybe it’s better now than at the World Championship. It was a tough game for the Slovaks. The ⁤Swiss were⁤ fast and physical.”

Országh Takes the Helm Temporarily

With head coach Craig Ramsay⁣ absent at the start of⁤ World Championship preparations, ‌Vladimír Országh, a ⁢former⁣ assistant coach, stepped in to lead the team.

“I felt good,” Országh⁤ said of his debut. “I was nervous at the beginning, of course, ⁢but that went away after the⁢ first faceoff.”

Országh brought a youthful squad to Herisau, with general manager Miroslav Šatan nominating four newcomers to the team.

“We tried out many‌ young players who ‍still need to adapt to the system,” Országh told JOJ Plus after the game. “But it’s extremely ‍valuable ⁢experience ⁤for ‌them.”

Game Summary

Slovakia started strong, with Robert Lantoši capitalizing on a Swiss defensive error to ‌set up Matej Kašlík,who scored the opening goal less than four minutes into the game, beating Swiss goalie ⁢Leonard‌ Genoni.

“We scored the first goal through the kind of effort we⁣ want to see consistently:‍ a great challenge and⁤ a fast finish,” Konečný observed.

However, the second period saw a shift in momentum. The Swiss team, displaying superior speed and physicality, tied the game with a goal from Marc Marchon. Jakub Minárik briefly restored Slovakia’s lead with a power-play goal, assisted by Maxim Čajkovič, in the‌ 31st minute.

Dario Rohrbach ultimately secured⁢ the victory for Switzerland, scoring the game-winning goal three minutes into overtime.

Országh noted that while the Slovaks played well in stretches, they experienced “many quiet moments.”

“we need to play simpler, get the puck out of our zone, ⁤and support each other better,” he⁤ said.”There were situations where we needed to be more active, both offensively and defensively. We⁤ have work to ‍do.”

Kašlík’s Return a Shining Spot

matej⁣ Kašlík,playing ⁢his first ⁤game for the national team ‌since⁤ suffering a shoulder injury during the Christmas Kaufland Cup against norway, scored twice and was named Slovakia’s player of the game.

“The game was a bit casual on our part,” Kašlík said. “We need to skate more. The Swiss skated well and were a bit better than us.”

Kašlík played on the first line alongside Lantoši and Krištof, with the ⁤trio accounting for two goals ⁣and four ‍points.

“I was happy with the ⁣goals, but I could have played better,” Kašlík added.
